Sketch Sketch Sketch Sketch Sketch

I thinkt that’s actually one too many “sketches,” so I apologize for the bait and switch here. Did some more ink sketches over the weekend of various re-enactors. I’m really having fun with these, but I’m trying to analyze what I like better about certain ones. I’m having trouble doing that. I’m glad that they are staying loose and I’m not overdoing it, or worrying too much about making a painting or something amazing. Just trying to draw different people and costumes and grow my mental library a bit. I’m pretty much done penciling them in too which is fun. Just going straight with ink and coming back in with white-out. I think that’s why they are getting a little more “painted” looking, cuz it’s more of a back and forth process. I like that aspect of studying since it makes my eye work a little harder and makes me concentrate, but I think on a personal level, I prefer the look of the earlier ones where I at least blocked in the character in pencil to give me some guidelines. Problem there, is a usually get restricted to more linework when I have pencil there to guide me and I start worrying too much about being precise. I’ll just have to do more to figure it out, but I have some things I should actually be working on.

Started a new sketchbook today and hopefully it will serve as a continuation of what I’ve been doing, but grow into a better journal, a better place for me to come up with NEW ideas (I might outlaw robots and astronauts, but I doubt I can stick to that), and a better record of quick life studies…a LOT of them!

be back soon.
