so we saw avatar this weekend, in 3D!!!! It was pretty rad actually. heavy handed in the messaging, and i thought some of the characters were a little over the top (more than probably necessary), but it was better than i expected. i think i expected more cheese-cheese dialogue than i was fed, so that’s definitely a plus! nothing to write home about plot-wise, but visually what an amazing trip. there was so much crap going on, i’ll hafta see it again to really take it in. so far i think it’s just me, but there was something about the design of the na’vi that was too super-friendly for me. i think i liked it, but there was something that didnt quite sell me. it looked a little too disney influenced or something. they also seemed very “night elf from WOW” to me too. i cant put my finger on it. dont get me wrong, i thought it was amazingly done. i have the art book on order. i cant wait to get it because some of the visuals were astounding. really a masterpiece of conceptual designs all over the place.
on another note, i am preparing to enter the imagineFX cover contest. not that i stand much of a chance (i imagine professionals from everywhere will be entering), but i thought i might as well since the prize is a big cintiq. i dont think my usual look would fit the magazine much, so i tried to make something that seemed a little more fitting. it was fun to push myself this way, and i’m happy with it. i feel like i accomplished what i set out to do with it. now my plan is to print it, cover it with a varnish, and paint over it in attempt to turn it into something i’m more personally interested in visually. if nothing else it’ll be fun see if i can destroy it, and turn it into something better. contest is nearing a close and i’ve seen some really good entries. if nothing else, at least i tried right?

I’m seeing Avatar 3d monday and I haven’t been this excited since my birthday with the Blue Men. Which, actually, this should be very similar. hhhmm.
Having not drawn a self portrait since HS, yours has inspired me. Everyone should try it…nice self discovery.
Saw your site on Casey’s page and hadn’t snooped on here before. It’s insane. You rock. Have you ever looked at Jim Carrey’s page? Not much good artwork but cool.
